Lymington U3A celebrated the 30th anniversary of the U3A Movemebt's founding at its December meeting at the local community centre. Entertainment was provided by the Southern Union Chorus Barbershop, who sang songs ranging from Zippadee Do Da to Zing went the Strings of my Heart. Tea, wine and celebration cake were also enjoyed by members.

Members of Ripon and District U3A have been making waves in their advertising by setting up stalls at local markets, fayres and shows so spread the word. Business Secretary Sheila Burney even publicised the group from inside the pen at a cattle market (pictured).

A dozen ladies from Great Glen U3A used their brushes and palett knives to produce a landscape masterpiece under the supervision of group leader Jayne Good.

Members of Preston and District U3A celebrated Lancashire day with a medley of Lancashire songs, poems, monologues and a short history of the area. The food was also Lancashire-themed, with a hotpot lunch, mushy peas, chorley cakes, eccles cakes, Lancashire cheese and Uncle Hoe's Mintballs.

Todmorden U3A has now been in existence for five years and is edging close to 300 members – making it the largest voluntary organisation in town. There are active Special Interest Groups: Practical Art, Crafts, Creative Writing, a Concert Party and , recently, Photography as well as 4 language groups, Art Appreciation, Music Appreciation, two Poetry Groups, Philosophy, World Affairs and a large Science Group. There are also groups that are principally for enjoyment:- Walking, Table Tennis and Badminton, Quiz Group, two Scrabble groups, Coffee Club and Lunch Club. Finally there is the Let's Go Group that arranges an outing each month open to all our members.

Over 100 members celebrated the 21st anniversary of Newbury U3A at a lunch held at the local rugby club in September. Broadcaster and journalist Nicholas Owen, the guest speaker for the afternoon, gave a fascinating talk including many amusing anecdotes from his six years and the Royal correspondent for ITV News. Other guests included the Mayor of Newbury, the Leader of West Berks Council and a local newspaper editor.

Stourbrige U3A showcased its members artwork at an exhibition held at The Ruskin Centre Stourbridge in June. Christine Davies and Naomi Simone, leaders of the two art groups at Stourbridge, arranged for every member of each group to submit pieces, resulting in some amazing talent on display. It is hoped that the groups will put on a further exhibition to celebrate the U3A’s 30th Birthday at an event in September.
