u3a - Paint or Draw - Holidays

This photograph is of a painting I was inspired to draw/watercolour paint by my cousin who plays classical guitar and loves to visit Granada in Spain, that's my interpretation of him in the painting. I am particularly fond of the architecture and terracotta roof tiles in this painting and the majestic church in the background. The lantern provides perspective, atmosphere and illuminates the street at night. Granada is known for its festivals of music and dance and is a beautiful city to visit.

Quietly sailing away from it all on holiday - pastels. 

In my early years summer holidays were always at Runswick Bay. At first we went by train and bus, then shared a car with another family and finally we had our own car! I was pleased that my mother recognised the location of this painting straight away.

As children, the first thing we wanted to do on holiday was go to the beach. Let's hope the towels and swimsuits have been packed!

This is Cucugnan, a small village which I visited when in France with some friends. I loved the way it sat on a hill overlooking the countryside. It is a commune in the Aude department in southern France and lies in a valley in the Corbières Massif.

This leopard was the only one we saw on my safari trip to Kenya. It slunk along the bushes and I managed to get this quick snap.

Italy is my favourite holiday destination looking forward to returning one day.

Inspired by the Water Garden at the Golden Palace, I produced this artwork to remind me of our wonderful holiday in Japan. 

It often rains in the West of Scotland but that doesn't put me off - being on holiday there makes me happy. This was a wet day by Loch Melfort.

This was a beach picture I did in France the last time we were able to go, can’t wait to go back.

Who would ever have thought I would travel to the other side of the world? I saw this map of the states of Australia made out of native woods when I was there and it inspired me to try something similar but in needlefelt.

A bright, colourful collage to remind us of happy days at the seaside and hope for sunny days ahead. I used watercolour, paper, salt, string and ink.

The scenery in this acrylic painting is from a clean, cool lakeside in Finland.

My painting was inspired by the striking red roofs and Victorian lamp posts at Staithes on the North Yorkshire coast. It is a collage of Yorkshire related clippings and acrylics.
