There was a highly competitive atmosphere at the second u3a Robot Constructors Challenge.
The contest attracted teams from Lichfield, Cannock Chase, Stafford, and Cheltenham u3as who competed in the event organised by Gloucester and District u3a.
The sophisticated robots had to adhere to strict criteria in order to qualify and each involved complex mechanics, electronics, computer software and design.
The robots underwent four difficult challenges and had to demonstrate a range of skills. Chris, one of the organisers, said: "We all took it very seriously, and it took many of us out of our comfort zone, but it was a lot of fun.
"It's easy to build a robot, it's not easy to design and make it work. There was some really significant engineering involved."
Chris said there was great talent on display at the contest and added: "Everyone brought different skills to the table."
The hosts scored the most points and were declared winners on the day. They are now looking forward to next year's competition and would like to hear from any other u3as that would like to take part and even host the event.
