There are now 500 u3as migrated onto the new website builder for u3as, SiteWorks. This is a Trust volunteer-led project delivering a bespoke website platform for u3as, to replace SiteBuilder.
The project will see 700 u3as moved over onto new websites. This migration process began at the beginning of 2024, with a team of u3a volunteers supporting the website officers at local u3as to build their new website and answering any queries they have.
The entire project is led and delivered by u3a members - exemplifying the member-led structure that is one of the key principles of the u3a movement. The result is a system designed around the needs of u3as.
In November, Didcot & Districts u3a became the 500th u3a to be migrated onto SiteBuilder. The process was managed by Didcot u3a website officers Peter and Shirley who were supported by SiteWorks volunteer Chris.
Talking of the experience, Shirley says, "There was new vocabulary, new skills to learn and a lot of trial and error initially. We worked together mostly but Peter took the lead on the photos as he is a keen photographer. When we felt we were getting close to what we wanted we contacted our Migrator, Chris.
"She answered our many questions very quickly. When we asked ‘How do we do this?’ She patiently explained or said ‘I can do that for you’. We were very grateful for her support."
They continue, "It is good to see the final result and we are pleased to be the 500th to go live."
All u3as intending to move to SiteWorks are now in the migration process. Find out more on the SiteWorks website.
