IGO Help and Information

Theme is: Freedom

'Eye in the Sky ' by Kren Wells, Tenbury u3a

ixed media, acrylic paint, gesso, gloss medium and white pen. This piece depicts phenomena in space, comets, black holes planets and stars all meeting at one point in space to create an eye in the sky. Science, science fiction and space are not subjects that I warm to. As a child I tried to understand creation beyond our solar system and the infinity of it was too overwhelming. What I am really pleased with is the gloss medium over the black gesso creating a clearing in the atmosphere.

'Slipping away on the early morning tide' by Janis Towse, Sherburn in Elmet and Villages u3a

Paint on small card.
Seeing a yacht leave silently on the morning tide to freedom. Adventure calls!

'Lava' by MIchael Parry, Waterlooville u3a

Experimenting with the freedom of acrylic paint pouring, I encouraged the medium to flow freely across the canvas. Then noticing the suggestion of a figure amongst the 'lava', I added others to the very hot environment.

'UFO' by Nicholas Hanison, Hampstead Garden Suburb u3a

Real or imaginary UFO over English countryside.

'Dancer' by Nancy Raynsford, Doncaster u3a

In our art group we were doing quick sketches using two coloured pencils. We had some photographs to use as prompts and I chose a dancer. I don't usually work in pencil and it is very rare that I draw people but the idea of a quick sketch gave me the confidence to try. The image demonstrates both the freedom of the dancer and my freedom of expression.

'Freedom to fly, Up into the sky' by Mary Saracchi, Wilmslow u3a

How lucky are we, to be so free.

'Dolphins' by Annie Fisher, Pontyclun u3a

I think my dolphins - painted with water-mixable oils - look as if they are enjoying space and freedom.

'The Sea' by Rita Foster, Bishop's Stortford u3a

Freedom… this a mixed medium picture, water colour and gel, the picture is of a young woman walking into the sea, the freedom of not worrying about what you are wearing.

'Mouse' by Martin Jones, Sudbury u3a

A pastel pencil drawing of a mouse trying to find its way out.

'Feeling free' by Dawn Jenkins, Ilkley & District u3a

Feeling free a watercolour - the colour of my hair as an 80's new romantic, a wild mane untamed, flowing high and free. Bright blue eye shadow, a blast from the past of the 70's, experimenting with make up. The freedom of discovery to be me.

'Summer holidays' by Susie Shaw, Hawkwell Village u3a

Just my fun idea of Freedom. Children breaking up for the summer holidays inspired by the school near where I live

'Up, up and away' by Ian Weatherley, Witham & District (Essex) U3a.

A Pastel Pencil drawing on black paper depicting the start of this bird's new found freedom.

'Fled' by Lora Thompson, Ilkley u3a

Inspired by a friend who came to UK with lovely clothes and jewellery, but only had all that she stood up in, having fled the threat of genocide from what used to be her home and workplace.

'Too Big for your Boots' by Salim Quraishy u3a

"Too big for your boots".........but the joy of FREEDOM trying mums shoes on is what every little girl does !!!

'Beach' by Dennis Parkinson, Northallerton u3a

Freedom to walk on beach. Watercolour with white correction fluid
