A Sense of History
A collaborative group looking initially at History from personal sources. As the group forms, participants can then discuss what themes or subjects are of interest for following sessions!
To start, all members will choose an item that demonstrates some historical link with you/your family and share them with the group. We will spend time reviewing the personal contributions and discussing the findings.
We will use micro-history as a basis, as everyday items can tell us a lot about our past. It might be documents, accounts, objects, clothing, folk songs, or nursery rhymes etc, which can reveal some tantalising insights. For example, some Priory accounts from 1300 revealed what furnishings were used by the Priory, how the kitchen was stocked etc. Maybe small local Roman Roads north of Hadrian's Wall might be of interest? Participants will decide!
