Theme is Black & White

'Colchester Zoo' by Graham Wood of Sidcup u3a
I went to Colchester Zoo in April and being a sunny day the animals were relaxing in the sunshine. Even though I could not see much of this ape, it was obvious that they were chilled out lying on a platform

'Morecombe' by David Hart of Chesterfield u3a
Taken as the space probe touched down on Morecambe.

'Glass Half Full' by Bob Robertson of Sutton Coldfield u3a
Amazing what you can do with a glass half full of water and a couple of backing boards.

'King Penguin' by Derek Oakley of Droitwich Spa u3a
King Penguin at Birdlife Centre, Bourton on the Water.

'Poisoned Glen' by Brian Moore of Belfast u3a
This church dates from 1830 and is located in a place known as the Poisoned Glen which is in Co Donegal Ireland. This is part of Irish folklore

'Carpet Bowls' by Roy Morton of Sidcup u3a
Maybe some of our bowling members kept their eye in during lock down by practicing with carpet bowls similar to these? I have two spot colours in this black & white subject produced as a high contrast black & white photograph to add a slightly different take on the brief. Colour file converted in Photoshop Elements.

'Heart shadow' by Bob Hunt of Forest Town & District u3a
The shadow cast by the spectacles when I rested them on a book inspired me to create this photograph.

'Spiral Stairway' by Tony Pelham of Warrington u3a
This simple spiral stairway feeding the circular glass roof dome at the Museum of Liverpool looked better rotated to landscape mode (it produces less of a crick in the neck looking up as well)

'Don McCullen exhibition' by Denise Bailey of Camelot and Shepton Mallet u3a
I had been to see the Don McCullen exhibition of B&W images at Hauser & Wirth before first lockdown. I was out for an exercise walk during lockdown and noticed the moon reflected in the puddle in a gateway. It reminded me of the exhibition images I had been to see. It was a quick grab shot but I quite liked it.

'Film On Film' by Ken Jones of Calverton & District u3a
This was taken back in January during the lockdown photography group monthly competition of The Calverton & District u3a. The theme was 'Still Life'. It was following a tidy-up of my older camera stuff.

'Incense Stick' by Rosemary Gibb of Rugby u3a
I was enchanted by the amazing patterns made by a smoking incense stick, many having the quality of an x-ray. The delicate twists and turns are magnified in this design by flipping one image vertically and horizontally to add to the intricacy.

'All That Jazz!' by Angela Reid of Balsall Common u3a
Black and White theme reminded me of my wonderful jazz box sets The White Box and The Black Box. Enjoy listening to the Jazz Album in the evening too!

‘Inky’ the Elephant by John Owen of Worcester Area u3a
Elephants recently made an appearance on the streets of Worcester in support of charity. This black and white elephant depicts local images and harmonises with the black and white building in the background. Most of the elephants were multi-coloured but this one stood out being black and white and with the detailed intricacy of its pen art.

'Vestibule of The Silo' by Jack Irvine of Chichester u3a
A modern art galery and hotel in Cape Town, South Africa.

'Steam Train' by Janet Rutter of Devizes & District u3a
Traditional steam train image from our local Heritage railway. Always more atmospheric in black and white!
