Learning in the u3a movement

This was taken when ice has coated everything for several days and these hardy souls came to restore power to our small Devon village. We were very grateful as you can appreciate.

A surprise in the garden on 25th December. My initial reaction was an upside-down icicle but how?! Later I learnt it is an ice spike. Absolutely amazing and beautiful, a simple reminder of the glories of our planet.

Walkers and dog walkers at Alexandra Palace decorate a tree each year. On my own dog walk I spotted this and liked the composition of the Christmas tree with Ally Pally in the background. Simple as that!

Our friendly woodpecker decided to pay us a visit this morning and enjoyed a selection of nuts as well as pecking away at the tree. With a touch of snow on the rooftops our visitor captured the essence of winter as it built up its reserves for the winter. Our u3a branch theme for our photography group is "on my doorstep" which fits the bill perfectly

Taken on 23 November 2020. A beautiful, sunny autumnal day with glorious colours and reflections in the water. I was inspired to take the photograph by seeing the sun on the water and wanting to capture the beauty of the scene.

A real treat to see this Fieldfare, a winter visitor from Scandinavia, enjoying lunch in Worcestershire!

Lake Vyrnwy - Tuesday 8 December - the views had much improved! We walked a lot further

This was taken on a trip in 2017 to Stobo Castle Spa in the Scottish Borders in their gardens. The snow came down hard closing the roads and giving us a terrific excuse to stay on an extra couple of days.

The first heavy frost of this Winter and how beautiful this hydrangea looks with its white edged leaves.

The view from the footpath at the rear of our house just outside Barnsley across the fields. I took it because of the beautiful light in the early evening.

My faithful friend and I love our morning walks, especially when the day holds such promise.

Lapland was magical. For about an hour at midday the sun rose above the horizon. The snow-ladened trees took on the appearance of ghostly figures

This is Eastbourne beach on the first day of Winter 2020. It was chilly but very sunny, but you can tell the time of year by the long shadows, which I particularly like. We have to grab these moments in the general gloom.

This cherub in my garden’s birdbath looked as though it was carrying the weight of the world on its shoulders after a snowfall 10 years ago. The snow melted away just like our world’s recent troubles will.

The shops in Hartley Wintney have different winter scenes created by the same artist; we were watching him at work. It is an amazing sight now that is is finished. 

Taken early on a frosty morning in our garden, cold enough to quickly freeze the soap bubble but before the sun was strong enough to melt it.

Taken early on Christmas Eve morning over lake Windermere. The morning was cold, clear and frosty and I just caught the moon setting behind the fella. It was quiet and magical.

I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and in Dec of last year at a local community centre I managed to make my own Christmas door wreath. It was very hard on my hands/wrists but so worth it. I was very happy with my efforts.
