Learning in the u3a movement

My photographs are normally all outdoors - landscape and wildlife - but during lockdown, I took the chance to try some new subjects. Really enjoyed setting up and taking this shot of mince pies being dusted with icing sugar, with Christmas decorations in the background to add some extra warmth and atmosphere

Taken in January 2021 on a frosty, misty day. A big positive of "Lockdown" has been the extra time available to go out walking locally and to use the camera to look at the "little things" rather than just the big picture. I just love the hoar frost on the brown ash keys and empty stalks.

I was informed that the lake at Hillsborough Forest Park had frozen over so I gathered my camera etc and went to see it for myself. It was amazing to see a lake nearly completely frozen and with all the debris on top. The swans and ducks were limited to a very small area

After a heavy frost even fading flowers can look lovely in my garden

Several years ago we went to Lake Bled in Slovenia for a new year break and the walk around the lake in the snow was magical. These boats were available to ferry people to a little island in the middle of the lake. (Boatman photoshopped out)

Day's end. Walking with the sunset at my back I snapped some underlit clouds on my phone. Inspired by the work of Saskia Boelsums, I used extreme processing to create a dramatic. non-naturalistic effect. She does it much better!
