Learning in the u3a movement

Theme is: Lines

'Lined Jacket' by Tessa Phillips of Potters Bar

'Lined Jacket' by Tessa Phillips of Potters Bar

This lovely jacket with the beautiful blue lines and matching scarf brings back memories of several wonderful occasions and I am so l looking forward to being able to dress up and wearing it again at future special events.

'Spoon' by Jonathon Ruddle of Hartley Wintney & District u3a

'Spoon' by Jonathon Ruddle of Hartley Wintney & District u3a

The picture came out of Lockdown 1 and a fascination at the time with abstract photography. I found an old brightly-coloured bottle gift bag and (without consulting my other half) cut it up to give the strong coloured lines. I like the way that the lines come together on the back of the spoon to give a strong focal point.

Prompted by having a new washing line, I had fun with the colours.

'Mushroom' by Marion Clark of Newquay u3a

Lines of gills underneath a mushroom.

'Boat Lines' by Brian Moore of Belfast u3a

'Boat Lines' by Brian Moore of Belfast u3a

This is an image of different lines to a number of boats at Dundrum. It has an abstract look to it and provides a different perspective

'The beauty of nature' by Ian Weatherley of Wiltham & District u3a

This close up of a sea shell illustrates the wonder and beauty of this naturally created pattern of curves and sweeping lines.

'Flow Lines' by Graham Farrell of Evesham u3a

Taken in Scotland with a long exposure, and processed to show the lines created by the fast moving water.

After a year of Covid lockdown I'm beginning to feel very much like my photo.

'Vibrant Variations' by Janet Rutter of Devizes & District u3a

'Vibrant Variations' by Janet Rutter of Devizes & District u3a

Thinking of lines, and looking at stripes! I loved the distortion of the background seen through the glasses of water, creating a vibrant variation on the lines' theme.

'I must try harder' by Chris Parnell of Bracknell Forest u3a

'I must try harder' by Chris Parnell of Bracknell Forest u3a

I wondered what 'lines' I could come up with and immediately thought of school. I love to write with a fountain pen (which ran out part way through the exercise of creating this picture) so created 25 lines, which nicely fitted a square. At school it was typically 100. I have so far had no picture selected for u3a Eye. So, will my punishment lines be good enough to catch someone's eye?

'The Rainbow Line' by Graham Quinton-Tulloch of Balsall Common

There are railway lines at the end of the rainbow

'Frost Lines' by Chris Conway of Bangor u3a

Frost lying on the fabric covering my allotment beds.

'Ripples' by Tony Pelham of Warrington u3a

'Ripples' by Tony Pelham of Warrington u3a

Seahouses harbour at high tide. I loved the way that the poles cut through the ripples but were in turn broken by the closer ripples. The thick harbour wall determining the break between sky and water.

'Lines of Starlings' by John Guiver of Blackwater Maldon u3a

'Lines of Starlings' by John Guiver of Blackwater Maldon u3a

In the afternoon sun starlings congregate on the rigging of the local barges, filling every available space.
