On a recent visit to some gardens I noticed this lovely Dahlia which I thought fitted this current theme perfectly.

"Black & white magic" - Winifred Atwell
'Memorial Seat' by Roy Morton of Sidcup u3a

'Memorial Seat' by Roy Morton of Sidcup u3a

One of the memorial seats at the top of Hengistbury Head that looks down upon Mudeford Spit, with golden sands & beach huts below. The wood carver's grooves bring out the subject in this unusual design.
'Beauty Of Nature' by Peter Marrs of Droitwich Spa & District u3a

'Beauty Of Nature' by Peter Marrs of Droitwich Spa & District u3a

Walking through our local park when I came across the beauty of Fungi and how nature can create such astonishing features such as these natural grooves.
'A Comfortable Walk' by Angela Reid of Balsall Common u3a

'A Comfortable Walk' by Angela Reid of Balsall Common u3a

Walking near to Carsington Water in Derbyshire I spotted a beautifully carved chair with grooves cut through the wood to create the impression of creases on the back of the chair, and folds of material on the main structure of the chair. What a discovery!
'Family Blanket' by Chris Parnell of Bracknell Forest u3a

'Family Blanket' by Chris Parnell of Bracknell Forest u3a

I love the cheerful colours on the blanket of squares which was started by my Mum-in-Law and finished by me. For the photo I placed it in folds - it has enfolded me many times on cold evenings and will do so again before very long. It was great fun watching Rene lay out the strips and decide which colour she would choose next.
'The Goosenecks' by David Hart of Chesterfield u3a

'The Goosenecks' by David Hart of Chesterfield u3a

Very large grooves - entrenched meanders known as the Goosenecks and cut by the San Juan River, Utah, USA.
'Hairy Curtain Crust' by Mike Taylor of Dundee u3a

'Hairy Curtain Crust' by Mike Taylor of Dundee u3a

A rainy day walk in our local woodland was brightened up by the attractive orange folds of this Hairy Curtain Crust fungus growing from the grooved trunk of a felled beach tree.
'Mosque in Blue' by Wendy Hattrell of Doncaster u3a

'Mosque in Blue' by Wendy Hattrell of Doncaster u3a

Blue light on the Sheikh Zeyed Grand Mosque shows the creases and folds of the intricate pattern.
'After The Plough' by Trevor Hosking of Knutsford u3a

'After The Plough' by Trevor Hosking of Knutsford u3a

This was taken on a u3a walk in Cheshire. The lines of the ploughed field and the dramatic sky attracted my attention and I thought that a conversion to mono emphasised the shapes and textures.
'Caught in the Folds of a Leaf' by.Karen Coates of Solihull Central u3a

A tiny droplet of water, captured at Coughton Court National Trust Gardens.
'Cut Down To Size' by John Owen of Worcester u3a

'Cut Down To Size' by John Owen of Worcester u3a

Cutting down this tree has produced a series of grooves across the top of the stump. The irregular grooves and splinters conjure up, for me, an image of a city-scape in miniature.
'Folded Sheets' by Derek Robbins of Balsall Common u3a

'Folded Sheets' by Derek Robbins of Balsall Common u3a

Playing around with sheets of card this configuration of folded sheets appealed to me.
'English Imperfections' by Rosemary Gibbs of Rugby u3a

'English Imperfections' by Rosemary Gibbs of Rugby u3a

I spotted this during a recent visit to Weedon Ordnance Depot and thought it fitted the criteria. This flag of St George has seen better days and seemed to reflect the troubles of the country with a certain lack of respect in the manner of display.
'Kirigami Folds' by Bob Hunt of Forest Town & District u3a

'Kirigami Folds' by Bob Hunt of Forest Town & District u3a

The art of Kirigami is based on cuts, folds, creases and grooves (the fold lines are scored to facilitate the easier folding of the card stock). This image is part of a fairly easy to make geometric design.
