Our theme for August 2022 was 'Patterns'. This drew in a wide range of entries, from literal sewing patterns to the patterns made by water, to frosty garden chairs. Thank you for all of your wonderful entries, our judges are finding the job harder and harder!

'Log Pile' by Brian Snelson, Hockley & Hawkwell u3a
Log pile in the monastery of Agios Georgios Krimnon near Shipwreck Bay, Zakynthos

'Pebbles' by Peter Hagger, St. Neots u3a
Walking around the garden at Burghley House I noticed the effect of the water running over the pebbles and liked the effect.

'A Window on the World' by Gill Wallis, Sutton Coldfield u3a
Ironically we had been to an exhibition at the Photographers' Gallery with some fellow photographers. As we walked back into Oxford Street I looked up and noticed this window at first floor level with its intricate patterns. No one else saw it as they were chatting. We've walked past a number of times since and the light has never been the same so I felt quite lucky to have been able to capture the image at the time.

'Bridge Symmetry' by Carole Hewitt, Wokingham u3a
Strolling beneath Blackfriars Bridge, I felt compelled to take this. Love the symmetry.

'Pattern upon Pattern' by Richard Wimbush, Norton Radstock u3a
There are so many patterns in nature but I likes the way the rain drops emphasised the radial pattern on the leaf.

'Tunnel of Patterns' by Ruth Lancashire, Leigh Estuary u3a
The tunnel of patterns in Canary Wharf, London

'Dragonfly' by Steve Black, Northallerton u3a
Pineapple Disc Sculpture at the Himalayan Gardens, Ripon

'Curves Of Light' by ICE Hosking, Knutsford u3a
This was taken in a Union Canal tunnel very close to the Falkirk Wheel. The lights on the tunnel accentuated the curve of the ceiling but I have inverted the image for more impact.

'Tesselate' by Jackie Price, St Helens u3a
I spend days puzzling....and I had only myself to blame as I had brought this tessellate puzzle as a treat for myself...!!!

'Ripples' by Christine Middleton, Dunmow (Essex) u3a
At Belper in Derbyshire the River Derwent widens before flowing quickly under a bridge. The arched bridge with its metal railings is itself attractive but, when we were there, the shadows of the railings falling on the water below were more eye-catching.

'Leaf Pattern' by Eric Ladbury, Long Eaton u3a
Leaf Pattern in Portmeirion, North Wales. I liked the way the light is transmitted through the green leaves displaying the pattern of veins, photographed in the woodland shadows with a stream of light hitting the branch.

'Patterns In Nature' by Heather Quiney, Dunmow u3a
I love the patterns that nature makes. Fibonacci spotted its mathematical significance but nature was using it way before that.

'Garden Lantern' by Chris Smith, Limebrook u3a
Upon my recent retirement my friends kindly presented me with this garden lantern. We now sit outdoors in our garden in the evenings so much more and I love the patterns it creates.

'Frosty Table' by Joan Grosscurth, Fairford u3a
A garden table on a frosty January day in Quenington where I live.

'Patterns' by Cynthia Morton, Sidcup u3a
A mixture of patterns. Two examples showing needlecraft patterns. The knitting wool has a random pattern which is of a soft design. The material has a pattern of crosses and squares.
