Welcome to the u3a film subject advice page
Hi, my name is Dave and although Hollywood has never quite seen fit to put me on the payroll, I am your Film Studies subject advisor and a lifelong movie enthusiast.
Since childhood I’ve ridden the Wild West with John Wayne, danced my way down to Rio with Fred and Ginger, and frightened myself senseless with each new Hitchcock release—usually from the comfort of a well chosen seat.
While the 1930’s and 40’s remain my favourite cinematic era, I’ve never been one to stay firmly in black and white and continue to enjoy films right up to the present day. I also spent a short but enjoyable stint as a film critic for a local newspaper, which confirmed two things: everyone has an opinion about films, although mine was printed.
I hope to be able to provide advice and support, and maybe the odd interesting nugget as the film page develops into an informative and entertaining corner of the U3A.
Contributions are very welcome– so if you have ideas, articles or favourite films you would like to champion, please do share them.
The u3a MPLC license
For more information about the MPLC license for u3a film groups, please see the document below.
So, I look forward to receiving your suggestions, film reviews, articles and even artwork. If you have a particular interest like soundtracks, well tell us all about it. You might like to collect lobby cards, autographs or posters or have a shrine to a favourite film...it does happen! Perhaps you’ve met a star...my claim to fame was meeting Marlene Dietrich amongst others and even my wife’s sister was an extra in the 2019 film “Yesterday”.
