The U3A has begun its national workshop series with ‘Keeping It Legal’ at the Met Hotel in Leeds.

This is a new series of training events run by the Third Age Trust (the national body which supports and looks after all U3As) and is aimed at U3A committee members covering General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Insurance, Safeguarding, and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.

These workshop days are being offered in response to requests and enquiries from U3A committee members regarding the legal requirements and responsibilities of running a U3A.

Advice and Volunteering Manager for the Trust Sophie Wellings said, “The format of the training is a mix of plenary and break-out sessions, with time for networking and discussion. We hope that committee members will to go back to their U3As and feel more confident about remaining compliant and running their U3A safely. The two pilot workshops – the northern in Leeds and the southern in Surrey have proved so popular that we are now planning a third, to be held in Birmingham in April. We are really pleased and impressed at the level of interest that these have generated.”
