A recent survey of attendees of u3a online learning events has shown that 98% would recommend events to others.*
There are weekly free online learning events available to any u3a member, and there have already been 98 events between January and June this year.
Ranging from a series of talks about Van Gogh, to Maths Workshops and networking events around popular u3a subjects, there is something for everyone. These are mostly hosted by other u3a members, who want to share their knowledge or skills in different subjects.
Over the past 6 months, 88% of attendees who filled out a feedback form learnt something new from the event they attended.
Many of the events are led by u3a members with knowledge and skills to share. In a recent talk, Julie of Syston & District u3a presented on using Parish Registers to aid Family History research. One attendee noted that Julie was an “Excellent presenter, interesting content very well delivered. Thank you, Julie - your knowledge and enthusiasm are first class.”
Members can also enjoy series of events. A six-week Meditation and Mindfulness course, hosted by members of Sheffield u3a, was described by an attendee as “my best mindfulness experience yet. Informative, educational, well-paced and enjoyable. I’m certainly benefitting from this”.
The online events programme also features celebrity speakers such as Theoretical Physicist and Radio 4 presenter Jim Al-Khalili, who spoke in March about Quantum Biology. One piece of feedback praised Al-Khalili’s ability to make his talks accessible to all. “Jim Al-Khalili is a brilliant speaker, really engaging and knowledgeable. He can convey really complicated topics in a manner that people can comprehend, more of the same please!”
92% of attendees have found recent online learning events interesting and enjoyable. In March, teacher Rachel hosted three sessions of seated yoga, which was incredibly popular. One attendee said, “I really enjoyed this event and appreciate yoga being available online particularly during the winter months and also for those of us who, for whatever reason, are unable to get out of our homes easily.”
Online learning events via zoom offer the chance for u3a members to experience learning and a sense of online community without having to physically go out. 98% of attendees would recommend these events to a friend or other u3a member.
These events usually take place on weekdays at 10am or 2pm, and can be booked via the online events webpage.
