u3a greg and gill ballroom dancingBallroom and Latin American dancing classes within the U3A provide excellent opportunities for learning new skills or developing previous experiences in Ballroom Dancing.

Dance manuals and other writings have always lauded the health benefits of dancing, usually as physical exercise. More recently, research has shown other health benefits of dancing, such as stress reduction and increased serotonin level, with its sense of well-being. The popularity of TV programmes such as the BBC’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ series has seen a surge in people of all ages seeking to learn to dance.

We are keen to help Group Leaders to set up or develop Ballroom dancing classes with a great emphasis on enjoyment, whether members attending are beginners or a more experienced dancers wishing to practise or improve style, technique and repertoire. We can offer support on running workshops covering Waltz, Quickstep, Ballroom Tango, Foxtrot, Rumba, Cha Cha Cha, Samba, Jive, Salsa, even Argentine Tango! We can also advise on organising related social events such as dancing weekends hosted by top professional dancers, workshops by visiting champion dancers, and trips to famous dance venues such as Blackpool Tower Ballroom.

In the future we would like to establish synergy with existing Ballroom Dancing Groups within the U3A with a view to organising reciprocal visits and training days.
