All Kinds of Country Music
Country songs are about storytelling, originally from rural America, featuring acoustic guitars, banjos, fiddles, and twangy vocals. Americana and heartland both emerged partly as authentic counterweights whenever mainstream commercial country leaned too heavily into polished, stadium-pop formulas.
Radio 2’s The Country Show is still going strong despite the retirement of Whispering Bob Harris. Country to Country (C2C) is an annual festival taking place all round the UK, and the Country Music Awards (CMAs) celebrate their 60th year this November. Country music isn’t going anywhere!
So, anything goes in these sessions, from legendary pioneers such as Johnny Cash, Glen Campbell, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, and Patsy Cline, to modern chart-toppers such as Luke Combs, Morgan Wallen, Carrie Underwood, Ella Langley and Lady A.
Throw in a slice of Heartland such as Gram Parsons, Townes Van Zandt, Chris Stapleton and Miranda Lambert.
And a taste of Americana such as Emmylou Harris, The Band and The Flying Burrito Bros.
Members get to choose a couple of tracks per session with a preferred (YouTube) video if they wish, and, if they desire, they will introduce their selection.
