'Wave' by Ron Smith of Grimbsy and Cleethorpes u3a

'Wave' by Ron Smith of Grimbsy and Cleethorpes u3a

My response to the 'Sea' challenge was inspired by the Japanese print, 'The Great Wave off Kanagawa'.

'Beach at Sunset' by Neil Collins of Hale and District u3a

'Beach at Sunset' by Neil Collins of Hale and District u3a

Neil used a photo posted by another member in their "Keeping in Touch" Group. It's a fairly faithful representation.

'Pair of Muffins' by Kath Coleman of Sully u3a

'Pair of Muffins' by Kath Coleman of Sully u3a

Paper collage. I love to paint with paper and use old magazines and redundant holiday brochures to create my images. This painting of a pair of puffins reminds me of a wonderful boat trip the the Farne Islands off the coast of Northumberland. I hope it makes you smile.

'First view of the sea' by Tania Le Marinel of Washington Village u3a

That first tantalising view of the sea as you walk through the sand dunes.

'Lanzarote sea' by Lesley Wiltshire of Gloucester u3a

This painting was inspired by the navy blue sea in Lanzarote - pre lockdown.

'Jellyfish' by Liisa Brown of Hartley Wintney u3a

'Jellyfish' by Liisa Brown of Hartley Wintney u3a

There is so much in the depths of our oceans that we are still to discover - this type of jellyfish may be one of them?! Made with watercolour, pens and glitter.

'Storm on Breakwater' by Peter Akers of Sherbourne u3a

'Storm on Breakwater' by Peter Akers of Sherbourne u3a

I was attracted to this image by the power of the water in the storm scene. Creating the work in soft pastel needed a range of techniques: strong colours to capture the sunset, blending in the clouds, and scratching/pressing to create the sense of water flying off the waves in the foreground.

‘Crashing Waves’ by Marie Evans of Epsom and Ewell u3a

‘Crashing Waves’ by Marie Evans of Epsom and Ewell u3a

Early last year I was introduced to pastels, I found them an interesting medium for creating seascapes. For this image I used soft chalk pastels on grey pastel paper and a photograph as a reference.

'Trawler' by Anne Pearson of Hale u3a

'Trawler' by Anne Pearson of Hale u3a

I painted this in one of the Friday Watercolour painting on line zoom sessions. A nice way to spend some time in the company of other U3A artists.

'Sunset at Lilia' by Paul Houston of Horley u3a

'Sunset at Lilia' by Paul Houston of Horley u3a

This is sunset at Lilia on the far west coast of Brittany. My watercolour, done in the middle of lockdown last year, was based on a photo taken from a wonderful restaurant on the sea front after a hard day's hiking in the autumn of 2019.

'Sunset over the Italian Adriatic Sea' by Gabrielle Summerhays of Farnham u3a

Inspired by a wonderful sunset over the Italian Adriatic Sea. Looking forward to seeing one again soon! In acrylic on board.

'Light & Shade' by Bee Hepworth of Leigh Estuary u3a

'Light & Shade' by Bee Hepworth of Leigh Estuary u3a

My picture is actually done totally in fabric with paint or pastel used to emphasise light and shade. I started making cards with fabric which led on to picture making as well.

'The smell, the sound and magnificence of the sea' by Lilwen Guest from Hale and District u3a

'Saltburn by the Sea'

'Saltburn by the Sea'

I love watching the surfers at Saltburn by the Sea. Knowing that it is an impossibility for me to participate but still yearning to, my imagination inspired this close up of catching a wave.

'Paradise Island' by Jacqueline Dughan of Burton on Trent u3a

I named this artwork Paradise Island because its calm sea, sunshine and tranquility make it a perfect holiday island.
