Current Affairs Discussion 2
Womankind
Meeting dates/time: 1st & 3rd Tuesdays 5pm – 6.30pm (for limited time period)
This is a ‘bitesize’ group, to discuss together topics relevant to women’s lives today.
6 sessions are planned currently, covering a range of topics. Group size maximum 12.
Discussion topics will ask; why so many everyday things we use are designed less ‘user friendly’ for women and how did women get removed from leading faith roles? There is also good news in the topic range – women have long played key roles in protest for change and found their voice with #MeToo.
And the discussions will take a revised look at the older woman – is she the real rebel in society?!
What Are You Watching?

Our group coordinator Catherine will ask all the members who have signed up for this new venture to attend the initial meeting Sunday, November 3 at 2pm when members can get together to discuss how they would like the sessions to run etc.
If you want an invite make sure you sign up for the start up …
Our Editor’s recent watches have been Sky Tennis on my fire stick and The Beautiful Couple on Netflix but being abroad, I can’t see IPlayer so I’ve missed the second series of Sherwood (boo hoo – Helen…)
Plus does anyone know how I can watch/stream the Film, Brooklyn?
Local History on a National Scale
By Sandra, Group Leader.
Perhaps you were intrigued by the name of our group when you were deciding which of the many and varied interest groups to join. A national local history group – how does that work?
Each month we take a theme and listen to two or more talks about it. Last year one of the themes was celebrations and traditions. That gave us a circus in Norwich, Preston Guild celebrations, and the Much Wenlock Olympic games! It’s a great way to find out about different places across the UK. Why not give us a try? Come and listen, and maybe contribute?
We meet on zoom first Wednesday of the month 11.00am – 12.30pm.

My Pumpkin Soup
Deseed your pumpkin – I like butter nut best.
Cut into (even sized if possible) slices and toss in olive oil season with a small amount of chilli flakes, salt and black pepper.
Roast in a medium to high oven until soft – remove flesh from skin – reserve.
Chop a small onion a stick of celery and a carrot and cook in seasoned water for 10 minutes or so until soft. Drain and add to pumpkin flesh.
Add a vegetable stock cube to the water used to cook the veg.
Using a hand stick blend the pumpkin and veg together slackening with the stock to achieve your desired constituency.
Check the seasoning.
To serve add strips of roasted red peppers in olive oil and sprinkle a few chilli flakes or fried onion crumbs as a topping.

Question and Answer Session for IGO Members
How do I know what groups I can join?
First of all you must log on to the Beacon Members Portal.
Then enter your email and password and confirm your identity (remember this is your Interest Groups Online identity which is different to your identity for any local u3a’s you may be a member of)
The screen will change once you confirm your IGO identity and you will be able to look at a list of all the groups plus you can check a separate calendar of meetings coming up in the future to see which dates you can make and which would clash with other events in your diary ….

A Strict No-No
From time to time IGO members who are entrepreneurs wish to market, promote or sell their products via the U3A – this is against the policy of the U3A. Group leaders should be alert to this kind of behaviour and whilst it is acceptable for example to provide a link to a company website at the end of a session – any direct promotion during U3A sessions is a strict no-no..
