In 2018, I took part in a six-person English Channel Relay to raise monies for the Aspire Charity. In this talk, I look at what was involved, as well as the history of English Channel swimming

1. A fast moving multi faceted talk about successfully combatting international organised crime involving UK gangsters, the Mafia, a Bolivian drugs cartel and a contract killing.
2. Sting operations involving police undercover deceptions and armed ambushes of dangerous robbers by the Flying Squad.

A bugbear of mine is the glorification of crime and the elevation to status of folk hero of some very unsavoury people. A humorous talk includes Dick Turpin, Ned Kelly, Al Capone, Billy the Kid and others and explodes the myths that these people were fluffy pussycats worthy of our admiration.

I have travelled as well as lived in Nepal in the past. I have a friend who has a charity, which works with rural communities there, and I spent 3 weeks with the charity supporting the health workers, living in the community, teaching the health workers as well as the local women.

Do the participants in the World Memory Championships have memories that are vastly superior to yours and mine?

I trained as a Bereavement Support Volunteer with my local Hospice and have worked with over 150 clients over the last 10 years. I have supported a wide range of people, including those who have been forced to face the death of their children and those bereaved through suicide.
