Subject Advice

Walking Cricket

We currently have support from two Subject Advisers - Contact the adviser , John Smith-Warren (Wakefield u3a) and Contact the adviser, Rob (Redditch u3a)

It may be best to contact the Subject Adviser closest to your u3a.

Walking cricket aims to create an interesting sport that improves fitness, and enables participants to have fun as part of a team experience. We extend a warm welcome to all members of the u3a to consider creating groups within your u3a’s, and enjoy some stimulating exercise as part of a team once every week or fortnight.

This is an all year-round sport, and one of the early u3as to adopt Walking Cricket was set up in Barnsley in Yorkshire by Mac McKechnie and helped grow Walking Cricket across the u3a. The first match was played in January 2019, and from there we are building a foundation which will allow us to explore possibilities with any other Walking Cricket teams in the area. We would encourage all members to  think about taking up Walking Cricket. Mixed walking cricket is a more relaxed, yet still a powerful team game that helps to recreate some of those past sporting activities and memories.

Support for u3as

We aim is to provide support and assistance to any u3a wishing to set up their own cricket groups. Let's have a conversation! Below you will find links to a YouTube video and presentation delivered by former Subject Adviser, Mac McKechnie.

Please have a look and get in contact using the Subject Adviser contact links above.
