Imperial War Museum’s Register - Help us to Remember Them
Our new project is inspired by Second World War Remembrance. Many of us will have been moved by the commemorative events surrounding the 80th Anniversary of D-Day on 6 June this year. For some, there will be a direct link with a family member and/or with a war memorial.
u3a Members – Please Help us to Remember Them
We are aiming to create a collection of photos sent by u3a members from World War 2 War Memorials with which they are familiar. These could relate to relatives or close connections or perhaps to the subjects of research done by individual members or u3a groups.
The data we need is:
• Where is the memorial? Address needed.
• Is there a special reason for it to be where it is?
• What is the name of the Memorial?
• Are there stories to go with the photos?
IWM's War Memorial’s Register is a comprehensive national database of UK War Memorials and the names of the individuals they commemorate members of the armed forces, civilians and animals from all conflicts who died in service.
Each war memorial is a unique record of the past, because each design and the words inscribed on it were chosen by the communities who created them.
Please send in war memorial information or photographs about your local war memorials, your own family or recollections of local history.
