u3a has recently shared 'Meet Marion', the final film in the Learn Something Brililiant Today series.
The films introduce members from across the movement and showcase how u3a, and the learning opportunities it provides, can change members' lives for the better. The series has shown a range of the activities that members can partake in at their u3as, including singing sea shanties, learning Welsh and playing table tennis.
'Meet Marion' shines a light on the painting group at Stapleford u3a. In the film, member Mairon shares how joining the group - and especially the support of the group leader Sheila - has encouraged her to fall back in love with art again.
Growing up in a family of artists, she dreamed of becoming one herself, but was discouraged from doing so by her father. Only when joining u3a has Marion found the courage to start sharing her art with others.
Marion says, "Three years ago, I joined the u3a and then tried this class and I’ve not looked back ever since. It’s been quite quite wonderful. I’m now 84. It wasn’t bad starting in my 80s."
