u3as mark u3a week
u3a week is the annual celebration of the u3a movement - an opportunity for u3as to host events in their local community showcasing what their u3a does and how their u3a members benefit. In 2025, it took place between 20-28 September.
u3as got involved in a variety of ways. Some u3as, like Elgin & District u3a, had displays and stands in their towns to start conversations with members of the public about u3a. Others like Barnsley & District u3a, and Ravenshead u3a, hosted open days where people could come along and see performances and displays from interest groups - highlighting the range of activities that members can enjoy when they join a u3a. Harborough Welland u3a hosted a week of different events where the public could have a taste of the u3a experience. At one event, members and visitors had the opportunity to try their hand at croquet, while at another, attendees had a go at petanque.
The week was celebrated nationally with a programme of online events themed around positive ageing. These were attended by over 1,500 members and their friends. The programme included an event with the National Office of Statistics exploring what official statistics can reveal about the ageing population, and another with the Centre for Ageing Better talking about the work they are doing to combat ageism.
