The Robot Constructor's Challenge

Published : 13 May 2022 Views: 2028

Gloucester u3a member Keith talks about the Robot Constructor's Challenge, open nationally to u3a members, and hosted by Gloucester u3a.

The Robot Constructors Challenge, hosted by Gloucester u3a, will take place on 26 October 2022 at Churchdown Community Centre.

The intention of the challenges is for u3a teams to submit constructions capable of moving a self-contained buggy around an arena, using intelligent or programmable devices, which can include, for example, Raspberry Pi©, Arduino©, Picaxe © , Adafruit© or other micro - controller.

There are numerous challenges to solve which can suit the past experiences of any u3a member. There are many scientific and engineering principles to enable successfully building a robot that will move in a straight line, and then to be manouverable. Add to that the design considerations to accommoodate the attachments needed to successfully complete each challenge All of this needs to be done with a careful eye on power consumption. A good example of Science Technology Engineering Mathematics.
