IGO goes where I go
Lately, I had the dreaded fall, an operation and hospital stay. Your whole life changes in a few seconds and mine has been centred around the u3a for years. However, where I go, IGO groups go with me! It’s one big advantage of being online learning.
I have often heard the quote from members, ‘I don’t know what I would have done without the u3a’. This applied to me over the past couple of weeks.
I could use Zoom to talk to members which is always a pick me up. However, planning future IGO interest group meetings that I lead, has kept me focused and I have actually had time to record my ideas. I have been doing similar for my local u3a groups and the Third Age Trust.
In a Speaker Swap arrangement for my local u3a General History group, we had an excellent talk from David Hunt of the National Trust. I have offered a list of talks which I can deliver so I look forward to meeting members in a different part of the country again. David is an experienced National Trust member so he gave us an insight into the National Trust which we may not have had from our members. This is the third Speaker Swap we have hosted, and we look forward to more.
Above all, it has been the warmth and support I have received from IGO members and members of my own u3a, in the region and the Third Age Trust, which has moved me so very much. IGO members from all over the country and one being abroad, have served to illustrate that IGO is not just an online, impersonal initiative where learning is shared but a meeting online of groups of friends and an online community who share so much together and offer support to others in the true spirit of the u3a.
