Benefits of joining

When you join an interest group at your local u3a you can learn together, make friends and have fun. With over 1,000 u3as spread across the UK, u3a creates communities for those who have stepped away from full-time work.

While most members no longer work full-time - they meet together for fun things to do in retirement - there isn’t an age limit for membership. Whether your interest is science, sport or something else, once you join your local u3a you can take part in existing interest groups and start your own.

How to join u3a

Each u3a is a separate charity that operates individually. Volunteering is at the heart of all that we do. Everything on offer at a u3a is run by the members, for the members. Everyone takes part and offers their skills, be that running the committee, an interest group or welcoming new recruits.

Joining your local u3a, for a modest annual fee, gives you access to both local and national activities. Nationally we run a programme of online learning events, competitions and challenges.
