The University of York will play host to u3a’s first ever festival next year – a chance for members from across the UK to gather and share the joy of the movement.

u3a festival 24, which takes place 18 - 20July 2024*, will include a wide range of activities, talks, workshops, exhibitions, sports tournaments and concerts that will showcase the vibrancy of u3a.

It is being put together by a small team, led by Margaret Fiddes, the Trustee for Yorkshire and Humber. She says: “The countdown to our u3a festival has begun and I am ridiculously excited. It is all about bringing members together to share the joy of u3a membership.

“What can you expect from the fantastic space at University of York? The possibilities are endless. We have meeting rooms, exhibition space, auditoria, outside and inside space as well as fantastic sports facilities. We just need to fill them with all the wonderful things that u3a is about.

“People are already coming up with ideas, even though we have only just announced the dates. We’d like to put a mixed and full programme together with activities, outings, music, speakers, sports and have-a-go sessions so that we really can come together over those three days and have a great time.

“We have 12 months to get something fantastic off the ground and I truly believe it will be a wonderful event.”

Depending on whether you’re going for the day, or the whole festival, there is onsite bed and breakfast accommodation made up of mainly single-bed rooms with a limited number of doubles.

The university campus is just to the east of the historic city of York, with excellent transport links making it is easy to travel in by train. Alternatively, there is plenty of parking so car sharing is a great way to get there.

Once on site, there is a restaurant and cafeteria to choose from, along with a bar and tea and coffee available.

All updates will be shared on the u3a Festival 24 page.
