Southport u3a are creating a Show Garden at Southport Flower Show to celebrate the u3a's 40th Anniversary.
Lisa Fryer, Gardening Group Leader, says, “The Gardening Group are thrilled and excited to undertake this Show Garden. We have some great ideas for it, and we want many of the other u3a groups to participate. We hope that this Show Garden will encapsulate all the great things we stand for in the u3a.”
Alongside the show garden will be a u3a stand which will enable us to talk to existing and prospective members. Our “Performing Groups” will also be playing on the Music Stand at times throughout the Show.
Planning for this massive undertaking is already under way by the Gardening Group with agreements reached already with a range of local suppliers who will provide materials free of charge. These include, fencing, shed, paving, soil, turf and, of course flowers and plants.
The final garden design needs to be presented to the Flower Show by April and the Group are working with a designer to create a garden with the title “u3a 40th Anniversary”. It is the aim to include many aspects of the perse nature of our u3a, which has nearly 100 Groups, as features in the design.
Over the next few months, we will be updating members on progress for this venture.
Southport Flower Show runs from 18-21 August 2022. There is a special discount for u3a members, who will be able to get tickets for £18, compared to the gate price of £27, using the promotional code, 'u3a' when buying tickets on the website.
