U3A Civic Award

Published : 24 August 2020 Views: 3722

Jack Berkovi, the Chair and founder of Hampstead Garden Suburb U3A (HSG U3A), has been given a Civic Award from Barnet Council for his work in the suburb.

Jack founded Hampstead Garden Suburb U3A in 2017 and within five months it had over 500 members and 60 interest groups. He also played a large role in setting up a virtual museum for the local area.

In the nomination statement for the award, the Membership Secretary, Margaret Bendor, said, "Jack is a longstanding Barnet resident and the founder of two charitable organisations which have made, and continue to make, a significant difference to the welfare of the community in and around the suburb. Without Jack’s tireless effort and commitment, neither of these charities would have become as successful and impactful as they are today.

“The success of HGS U3A is testament to Jack’s hard work and dedication as he has encouraged and supported everyone to feel able to run groups.”
