"There's no age limit on curiosity"

Jim Al-Khalili, physicist best known for hosting BBC Radio 4's programme The Life Scientific, appears in the September edition of the u3a radio podcast.

Ahead of his u3a member only event next month, he discusses what first led him into science, public engagement and why there is always something new to learn.

Talking to Peter Clift, he says, "It's part of the human condition that we're curious about the universe and our place in it. It would be sad for us, for humanity if we stopped thinking and being curious about the world."

When Peter asked Jim what he thought about the u3a model of continuing to learn in later life, he responds, "It's not only important for our own mental health and wellbeing to keep our minds active, but there's no age limit on curiosity. We often say scientists are the children who never stop growing up, they never stop asking why. Very often as you grow older, become wiser, maybe have more time to contemplate your place in the world, that curiosity can be reignited."

Listen to the full interview in September's u3a radio podcast episode on podcasting platforms including Spotify and Apple Podcasts, or watch it with captions on YouTube.

Jim Al-Khalili will be hosting an event for u3a members in October, 'The Arrow of Time'. Book your place now on the u3a online events page.
