The u3a movement has contributed to the All Party Parliamentary (APPG) on Loneliness Inquiry. The APPG, chaired by Neil O'Brien MP, and supported by the British Red Cross and Co-op is running a major independent inquiry into loneliness. 

Sam Mauger, the movement’s CEO said, “I was pleased to be able to contribute to this important inquiry on behalf of the u3a movement. Before the coronavirus pandemic, one in five people in the UK already felt always or often lonely, and this has not been helped by the limitations of face to face contact over this year.

The APPG has had over 300 individual responses and took spoken evidence over three sessions.
It is important that we continue to add our voice to this national conversation on how to tackle loneliness.

Our members report major benefits from being part of the u3a movement in terms of confidence, feeling supported in new communities, learning new skills, combatting loneliness, feeling valued and enjoying life.

The inquiry is now collating its key findings, best practice and recommendations for Government and others in a final report which will published early in 2021.”
