Camilla discusses the tea dance with a U3A member

“It was so exciting to be at Buckingham Palace and to have an interview with Camilla”

Members of Croydon U3A have taken part in a special tea dance at Buckingham Palace which included an audience with the Duchess of Cornwall.

The six U3A members were taking part in a special film for the Christmas edition of the BBC show -Strictly Come Dancing. The afternoon involved some of the Strictly stars and past contestants to the show.

Croydon U3A member, Sharon McEwan said, “This was such an exciting afternoon – and to be ask to talk with Camilla was a really special surprise. Camilla is really friendly.

“Camilla was attending in her role as president of the National Osteoporosis Society and wanted to talk about older people staying active. I told her I was a member of the U3A's Chair Yoga group as I have problems with my knee. I told her that this was the first tea dance I had ever attended and had found it to be a great way to exercise.

“Two of my U3A friends, Pauline and John Bartholomew had a lesson with the strictly professionals. I’m so glad U3A secured the opportunity for us all to go. I’ve been a member of U3A for the last four years – since I retired - and it is a great way to keep learning new things, stay active and make friends.

“Now I have stuck my invite to the palace, a newspaper article on it and a photo on the wall so that my first grandchild (due to be born next month) can see what an amazing time I had at Buckingham Palace!”
