Latin for Beginners

A new group for those interested in learning Latin – those who are completely new to Latin and those who have a little knowledge from schooldays are welcome, as are those who can happily translate et sedit super tapete cattus or even the misquote magna est veritas et praevalebit. Sessions will be held twice per month on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays (depending on which day is most convenient for members). The group will use a combination of a Latin primer (which members will have to buy) and material that the group leader will provide. The focus will be on grammar as it is necessary to build a sound foundation, but will be interspersed with translation of Latin texts, prose and poetry. To help keep everything in context, there will be discussions about the Ancient World and classical Latin authors.
Online sessions will be held via Zoom on either first and third Tuesdays at 3:30 pm; first and third Wednesdays or first and third Thursdays at 9.30 am to suit members.
