I came to Britain June 1939 from Berlin with a Kindertransport and was placed in a Refugee Boys Hostel in High Wycombe. We could see Battle of Britain air combats from there most days. Once a bomb landed at the railway line behind our house, another time a Junkers 88 bomber crashed on the meadow in front (some went to get souvenirs?) I collected Cigarette Cards of Aircraft of the Royal Airforce and it all made me interested in flying so that I spent my working life in the Aircraft Industry. I took lessons intermittently to fly Tiger Moths at Kidlington Aerodrome, Oxford in my teens as far as my Solo after 15 flying hours - happy days!
