Birdwatch Update 10

Published : 03 March 2021 Views: 3858

As we spend some time outdoors, with Spring just around the corner, members are starting to see more birds flocking near their homes and in gardens. Members have shared some wonderful photos with us through our Birdwatch form and told us a bit about the feathered friends they have seen out and about.

Stephanie, Wallingford u3a, saw a stork on the roof of a house looking down into a garden. It stayed there for some time.

Kate, Beckenham u3a, too this photo of a flock of redwings descending on their firethorn. At one stage there were about 20.

Linds from Nottinghamshire u3a has seen robins, wrens, pigeons, rooks, blue tits, grey tits, long tailed tits, a starling, 2 blackbirds and 2 doves near the house. This is just one example of these:

Sue, Leigh Estuary u3a, hadn't seen many birds in the garden lately so was delighted to see this Blue Tit checking out their box. Sue was pleased to see that one of them seemed to approve of the bird box her husband made recently.

This sparrowhawk visited Leighton Buzzard u3a member David’s garden. It is a fairly regular visitor as they have a large family of sparrows living in their hedge in the back garden. Fortunately, the hedge is quite thorny so the sparrows usually dive deep into the hedge to protect themselves from the sparrowhawk.
