2026 u3a Council Elections

Could you join the u3a Council?

In April this year, we established a new governance structure for the Trust, creating the new u3a Council to strengthen the voice of u3a members within our movement.

We’re now looking for new Council Representatives to join us from April 2026, with nominations opening in January.

The Council is still developing, so this is a great time to join and make a difference. With a role on the Council, you’ll represent a region/nation of the UK, forming relationships locally and amplifying the voice of u3as.

About the Council

The u3a Council is separate from the Board of Trustees. It is made up of two elected representatives from each of the twelve regions and nations, plus the Council Chair.

The Council’s role is to provide a link between the Board and u3a members. They are there to seek out and listen to the views of members and consult them on proposed changes. Council Representatives provide a platform for the u3a voice to feed into the development of the Trust strategy, ensuring the member voice is central to everything we do.

If the number of candidates exceeds the number of vacancies in any one region or nation, an election will be held. This will be open to all u3as in that region or nation.

How to apply

Nominations will open on 8 January. If you would like to put yourself forward, you will need to be proposed by your home u3a, and seconded by the committee of another u3a.
